Attorney Profile Terms

Effective July 23, 2026. These terms apply to attorneys who claim, manage, or hold a membership on a California Attorney Registry profile. They supplement the Terms of Use and control as to claimed profiles.

1. Eligibility

You may claim a profile only if you are the licensee identified on that official State Bar of California record, and you are claiming on your own behalf. One profile per licensee. Firm staff may operate an account only with the licensee's authorization, and the licensee remains responsible for it.

2. Identity verification

Claims require verification that you control the contact information on the official record, and may require additional evidence. Submitted evidence is screened and may be held for manual review. The Registry may refuse, suspend, or revoke a claim where verification fails, where evidence appears altered or forged, or where a claim is disputed — and may mark the profile accordingly while a dispute is open.

3. Accuracy and your obligations

  • Everything you publish must be truthful, current, and not misleading, and you must keep it current.
  • You are responsible for your profile content complying with the California Rules of Professional Conduct, including Rule 7.1 (no false or misleading communications) and the advertising and solicitation rules.
  • Under Rule 7.4(a), you may state that you are a certified specialist only where that is accurate and the certifying organization is named. The Registry names the State Bar of California's Board of Legal Specialization wherever a certified specialty renders, and does not describe attorneys as "specialists" on any other basis.
  • Do not publish guarantees or predictions of outcomes, claims of superiority the Registry cannot substantiate, or client information you are not authorized to disclose.

4. Registry review

Attorney-supplied content — headline, biography, media, professional history — may be reviewed before it publishes. Review is for provenance, policy, and compliance screening only. Review is not an endorsement, a verification of the underlying claim, or legal advice about your advertising obligations. The Registry may decline, edit for format, or remove content that violates these terms, and may remove content on credible notice that it is false or misleading.

5. Membership — flat fees only

  • Membership fees are flat and published. They are never calculated per case, per lead, per inquiry, per client signed, as a percentage of any fee or recovery, or by reference to the value, type, or outcome of any matter.
  • A membership purchases profile features and labeled placement. It does not purchase leads, referrals, matching, introductions, identity verification, a rating, or a position in the neutral directory order.
  • The Registry does not select, recommend, match, or refer counsel, and is not a lawyer referral service under California Business and Professions Code section 6155.
  • The Registry does not guarantee any volume of profile views, inquiries, messages, calls, clients, or revenue. Engagement statistics are reported as measured and are not projections.
  • Memberships renew on the published interval until cancelled. You may cancel at any time, effective at the end of the paid period. Fees already paid are not refundable except where required by law or expressly stated at purchase.

6. Sponsored placement

Where a membership includes placement, that placement is labeled "Sponsored" on the placement itself and appears in a labeled band above the neutral roster, ordered by membership level. It never alters the neutral organic directory order, never removes a non-paying attorney from the roll, and never confers a verification marker or quality claim.

7. Contact relay

The Registry transmits consumer messages to the address on your official record and does not publish that address. You are solely responsible for reviewing and responding to inquiries, for conflicts checking, and for any resulting representation. The Registry is not your agent, does not screen matters for merit, and no attorney-client relationship arises between a consumer and you through the Registry alone. Messages transmitted through the relay are not confidential or privileged.

8. Your license to the Registry

You grant the Registry a non-exclusive license to host, display, reproduce, and distribute the content you submit, for the purpose of operating and promoting the registry, for as long as your profile is published. You represent that you hold the rights to everything you submit, including photographs and firm marks.

9. Suspension, removal, and termination

The Registry may suspend or terminate an account or membership for breach of these terms, for suspected fraudulent claiming, or where required by law, and will make a good-faith effort to give notice. On termination, attorney-supplied content is unpublished. The underlying public-record entry remains in the registry, because it is a public record and its presence is not conditioned on payment.

10. Disclaimers, liability, indemnity, and arbitration

The disclaimers, assumption of risk, limitation of liability (including the aggregate damages cap), release, and indemnification in the Terms of Use — all running to the benefit of the "Registry Parties" as defined there — apply to you and to your use of a claimed profile and membership, and are incorporated here in full.

You and the Registry Parties agree that any dispute arising out of or relating to your claimed profile, your membership, or billing — like any other covered dispute — is subject to the binding individual arbitration agreement and the class-action and jury-trial waivers in Section 16 of the Terms of Use, on the same terms and subject to the same carve-outs and 30-day opt-out. To the extent permitted by law, any claim must be brought within one year after it arises.

11. Changes

These terms may be updated; material changes will be reflected in the effective date above and, for material changes affecting paid memberships, communicated to the account address before they take effect.
