What this calculator covers

For temporary total disability when a covered work injury prevents all work and medical eligibility is established. Partial disability, special employment rules, later payment-rate adjustments, permanent disability and settlements require separate calculations. This tool does not determine eligibility or create a disability rating.

Legal information, not legal advice. A worksheet is a starting point for checking your records, not a determination of what you are owed.

How the calculation works

The California workers’ compensation calculator estimates temporary total disability (TTD) benefits for injuries in 2023 through 2026. The weekly benefit is two-thirds of average gross weekly earnings at the time of injury, limited by the injury-year minimum and maximum set by the Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC): $242.86 to $1,619.15 per week for 2023 and 2024 injuries, $252.03 to $1,680.29 for 2025, and $264.61 to $1,764.11 for 2026. The worksheet multiplies the weekly rate by the payable weeks you confirm, up to 104 weeks, and subtracts temporary disability already received for those weeks. It does not determine eligibility, the three-day waiting period, medical release, later cost-of-living adjustments, temporary partial disability, permanent disability ratings or settlement value. Rates were compared with the DWC benefit schedule on 2026-10-12.

What to do next

  1. Use your average gross weekly earnings at injury, including relevant earnings from other jobs and required wage components.
  2. Enter payable weeks after confirming the waiting period and medical eligibility. Do not enter every week since the injury automatically.
  3. Compare the weekly amount with your administrator’s notice. DWC Information and Assistance officers can explain benefit questions; medical care and other benefits are separate.

Common questions

How are temporary total disability benefits calculated?

For the supported injury years, this worksheet starts with two-thirds of average gross weekly earnings and applies the injury-year minimum and maximum. For 2026 injuries, those weekly limits are $264.61 and $1,764.11. Your claims administrator determines the wage base and eligibility.

Does every week off work qualify?

No. Medical eligibility, a waiting period and benefit-duration rules apply. Most covered injuries are subject to a one-hundred-four-week limit within five years, with exceptions for certain conditions. Enter only confirmed payable weeks. Check the DWC guidance if you were hospitalized, disabled beyond fourteen days or have an exceptional injury.

Can this tool calculate a workers’ compensation settlement?

No. A permanent disability award requires a valid disability rating and other statutory factors. Future medical care and settlement terms also need individual assessment. The result here covers temporary total disability only; it is not the total value of a claim.
