Why can't CAR assign me a free attorney?
CAR is an independent directory, not a legal-aid provider, and does not assign attorneys. Each organization decides eligibility and each attorney decides whether to accept a matter. A resource listing or CAR case submission cannot guarantee free representation. Contact the provider directly to discuss scope, availability and any charges.
A free consultation is not free representation. Sliding scale means a provider may adjust fees. Pro bono considered means an attorney may consider unpaid work, not that a free place is available.
Legal-aid programs set their own income, location and case-type rules. Capacity can be limited. Only the provider can decide eligibility and whether to accept a matter.
