How do I get my profile taken off the registry without claiming it?

Email info@californiaattorneyregistry.com from the email address the State Bar of California has on record for you, and say you want your profile removed. Because it comes from that address, nothing more is needed: your profile comes off public display and you receive an email confirming it. You do not have to claim the profile, create an account or pay anything.

  1. Open the email account the State Bar of California lists for you on your State Bar profile.
  2. Write to info@californiaattorneyregistry.com and say you want your profile removed. One sentence is enough, for example: Please remove my profile.
  3. Watch for the confirmation email saying your profile has been removed from the registry.

Once removed, your profile page is no longer served to visitors, and your name comes off the registry's search and directory pages, including county, practice area and firm pages, at the same time. The registry also stops emailing you. Search engines that cached your page drop it the next time they crawl it, which usually takes a few days.

If you write from any other address, such as a personal address the State Bar does not have, a person handles the request and confirms it is you before anything changes. That check is what stops somebody else from taking your listing down.

Nothing is deleted. The registry keeps the public roll record the profile was drawn from, and your State Bar record stays public wherever the State Bar publishes it. To have your profile shown again, reply to the confirmation email and a person will restore it.

If you have already claimed your profile, you can also remove it yourself in one step from your dashboard; see the article on removing your profile.
