Chambers recognition in California attorney records

Checked against the sources below on 4 October 2026. The California Attorney Registry is not affiliated with any publisher named on this page.

A professional recognition is most useful when you can see who issued it, what work it covers and when it was published. The California Attorney Registry records Chambers and Partners recognitions as attributed facts, separately from State Bar license information and from optional membership.

What a Chambers recognition states

Chambers and Partners is a legal research publisher. Each year it publishes guides that place law firms and individual lawyers in tables by practice area and location. Its published methodology describes research built on law firm submissions, interviews and surveys with clients and peers, and its own analysts' assessment.

An individual recognition therefore has five parts, and none of them stands alone: the guide, the edition year, the practice table, the location and the designation. A registry record prints all five in one line, for example:

Chambers USA [edition year], [designation], [practice table] ([location]). As published by Chambers and Partners; CAR does not rank attorneys.

The bracketed words are a template, not an attorney's recognition. Chambers bands explained covers what Band 1 to Band 7 and the unnumbered designations mean.

A California licensee who practises elsewhere may appear in a regional guide such as Chambers UK or Chambers Asia-Pacific. The registry accepts those too, each named by its own guide. A firm recognition does not establish that every attorney at that firm was individually recognised.

Explore attorney-confirmed records

No eligible confirmed public recognition records were found in the current discovery sample. This is not a count of California attorneys recognised by Chambers.

For the full State Bar-based registry, browse attorney records. Most attorneys have no Chambers record here. A missing recognition is not evidence of lacking experience or achievement.

What CAR checks before displaying a recognition

    • The record belongs to an attorney who has verified their identity and confirmed the recognition.
    • The issuer, guide, edition year, designation, practice table and location are all named.
    • A published source and the day it was last checked accompany the recognition.
    • Editions from this year and last year are shown as current. Earlier editions are listed under their own heading, each with its year.
    • Private, withdrawn and stale records are withheld. A source not checked for 400 days is stale.

These checks establish where a record came from. They do not make CAR the issuer and they do not guarantee an outcome. A Chambers recognition is separate from State Bar Certified Specialist status, from license standing and from Gold, Platinum or Diamond membership.

    How to cite a recognition

Cite the individual CAR profile URL together with Chambers and Partners as the issuer, the guide, the edition year, the designation, the practice table and the location. Include the published source link and the last-checked date from the profile. The structured data on each profile carries the same lines the page shows, as award and hasCredential on the person, with Chambers and Partners named as the recognising organisation.

Search engines and AI systems decide what to index and cite. CAR makes sourced facts readable and linkable; it does not promise citations or search placement. AI citation guidance explains the registry's other data sources.

    When Chambers publishes

Chambers publishes each guide once a year, and a designation belongs to its edition. The 2026 edition of Chambers USA was published in June 2026. Research for the 2027 editions is under way: how the Chambers USA 2027 research schedule works explains how a firm finds its own section's status and deadline.

Attorneys: add or correct your recognition

Claim your record free, then open the recognitions section of your profile editor when it is available. Give the page Chambers published for you, the guide, the edition year, the practice table and the designation, and confirm the statement. You can add earlier editions, keep an entry private, correct it or withdraw it. If your firm's biography states a complete recognition, the registry may offer it to you to confirm; nothing is shown until you do.

    Common questions

What is a Chambers ranked lawyer?

It is a lawyer whom Chambers and Partners, a legal research publisher, has placed in one of its published tables for a named guide, edition year, practice area and location. The designation belongs to Chambers. The California Attorney Registry records it as an attributed fact and does not rank attorneys itself.

Does a Chambers recognition mean an attorney is licensed in California?

No. Licensing is a separate fact, held by the State Bar of California. Each registry record shows the State Bar number and license status first, and lists a third-party recognition in its own section with its issuer and source.

How do I check that a Chambers recognition is real?

Open the source link beside the recognition and confirm the attorney's name, the guide, the edition year, the practice table and the location on the issuer's page. Then check the attorney's license status on the State Bar record.

Why does an attorney have no Chambers recognition here?

Most California attorneys are not covered by Chambers, which researches mainly business practice areas. The registry also shows a recognition only after the attorney confirms it. A missing recognition says nothing about an attorney's experience.

Can an attorney pay the California Attorney Registry to show a recognition?

No. Recording a recognition is free for every attorney who has claimed their record. It is not a membership benefit, and it does not change the order in which attorneys are listed.

Does the California Attorney Registry show the Chambers logo or Chambers' written commentary?

No. The registry shows the factual designation in plain text, names Chambers and Partners as the issuer and links to the issuer's own pages. It does not reproduce Chambers' logo, editorial commentary or quotations.
